2015 MotoGP Sepang 1 Day 2 Final Times: Lorenzo Leads Dovizioso And Marquez

Increased heat at the end of the day saw no changes at the top of the standings, with only the riders behind Cal Crutchlow in 8th going fastest. Several riders said they were not really chasing lap times, the fast laps having been set during the morning. Thursday was all about set up work. With the test ending on Friday, tomorrow will be the day the riders put in a real time attack. The weather is expected to stay warm and dry, and allow another full day of testing.

Around two seconds a lap slower than Alvaro Bautista. Aprilia might wonder about their choice of rider if he isn't closer soon!

MM, (the slower one) doesn't look very comfortable back on a MGP bike and yet he was very competitive in wsbk the last few years.

I wonder if he just isn't able to use this generation of BS tires. They require a lot of faith from what CEIII said as opposed to feel. I hope he turns it around, but I think next years Michelins should be much better for him. Early reports from CEIII suggest that is exactly the path Michelin is on.. Feel > Faith and they don't allow you to toss it into the corner like the BS do. And yet, their lap times are very impressive already.

Also, I'm not knocking Dovi (a very likeable guy for sure), but in his time at Repsol, he was consistently 2-4 tenths slower than Pedrosa.

I'm wondering what an 'alien' could do on that Ducati... food for thought

Dovi in second ahead of Marquez and Iannone in front of Rossi. I know, I know, it's the second day of testing, it's foolish to start drawing conclusions. But if the GP15 delivers on its promise to improve on the GP14.3's performance--and solves Ducati's understeer problem--we may be in for a helluva season.

Apparently, the GP14.3 offers adjustment options not previously available on the earlier versions. Allowing it to 'mimic' the GP15, despite still having the 'big' engine.

I'm probably like most of you and really hoping for a Ducati resurgence. It just keeping looking better and better for them. Time will tell

They were testing various parts today, and a lap isn't race distance.
Ducatis were fast in the beginning of the race all last year. Once half distance hit, they went backwards.

Dovi did a 16 lap race simulation at the end of the day (in heat) at metronomic consistant laps FASTER than MM's winning pace..V-E-R-Y impressive!

YES, I know its just testing, but the early performance is encouraging.

What I really want (& it might just be a day dream) is that Suzuki do well enough to shame Kawasaki back into GP racing in the very near future. Bring BMW along with them too !

Yeah, its a dream ....... but what a grid that would make!

Still a very VERY long way to go. As ever, we're gonna need to wait until at least the end of Sepang 2 before we can even think about anything meaningful. Jorge seems a whole lot happier than he was this time last year though.

Espargaro and also Vinales are doing an encouraging job indeed in these early stages. Espargaro being 1,3 seconds behind fastest time is not bad at all. Of course a lot can change before racing starts, but this is a better start-off point than being three seconds off the pace.

Bautista is doing pretty good as well, given the fact that the Aprilia is very early in its development. Are they still using a modified RSV4 engine, or is this already a completely purpose-built MotoGP engine? And is there no model name for the GP bike yet?

On that subject just a side note, David: the Yamaha's correct name is YZR-M1. (I know it's often simply called the M1, but then again, the Honda is often simply called the RCV.)

Maverick strikes me as an incredible talent judging by his learning curve. I dunno if Aleix was actually looking for a fast lap today. But still: For Maverick to be just 0.572s off of his teammate's time on what is basically his 3rd day on the Suzuki - that's quite something. And he was incredibly fast up to speed in Moto2 as well.
I think he will definitely be one to watch in 2015. The question, as always, will probably be whether he can back up his raw speed with enough consistency.
