2013 Phillip Island MotoGP QP Result: Records Smashed In Swift Session

Full report and results below:

Jorge Lorenzo has produced one of the all time great MotoGP laps to navigate the Phillip Island circuit in a breathtaking time of 1:27.899 and claim pole position for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix. The lap was almost a second quicker than Casey Stoner's existing pole record and two seconds quicker than last years pole effort. The session wasn't without it's difficulties for the reigning World Champion however as he collected an unfortunate seagull on his very first out lap, the unlucky bird was then lodged in the side of his M1's fairing in bizarre looking scenes as he went on to initially break the circuit record with feathers bristling from the side of his mount.

Marc Marquez also went below the circuit pole record on his way to claiming second place on the grid and will be joined on the front row, in the middle of a factory Yamaha sandwich, by Valentino Rossi. Alvaro Bautista took advantage of a nice tow from Marquez to claim the first place on the second row ahead of a disappointing Dani Pedrosa and Cal Crutchlow aboard his Monster Tech 3 Yamaha. Fellow Tech 3 rider Bradley Smith heads up row three ahead of the inseparable Ducati duo of Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso, 'Dovi' did well to come through Q1 and just about match his team mate.

Randy DePuniet couldn't reproduce his fantastic early weekend pace as he crashed at turn two in the early stages of the session trying to get a tow from Lorenzo. Fellow CRT rider Colin Edwards also crashed, going down at the final corner with ten minutes remaining. Both riders were unhurt and managed to complete further flying laps later in proceedings but brought up the rear of the time sheets.

But 'All time great lap'? He beat Marquez by .2 which was pretty good I guess, must be nice to be the only man to ever lap PI under 1.28.

With a shortened race tomorrow who knows what will happen. Such a disgrace, Grand prix race being shortened because tyres cant last 27 laps. Its just going to benefit Honda/ Marquez at the end of it. Shame the title will be decided like this.

Everything is just like being set upped by Dorna ever since Moto3, very clear at Moto2. Ezpelata Really needs him quick to replace Rossi.... no mater what it costs. Bad rating please...

So it was Ezpeleta who severed the cable of Pedrosa's rear wheel speed sensor, and Ezpeleta broke Redding's wrist because he has the wrong passport. To replace Rossi with a Spaniard, he even went as far as breaking the collarbones of his main rivals.
Makes sense.

I wonder if this could be a way to introduce a new motor? The second bike would be technically starting from pit lane.

Nicky Hayden should take a fresh engine for the bike starting for Pit Lane, what a mockery it would make of Dorna and the rules. He would end up making the best of this Shitefest.

...'Lorenzo didn't leave me enough room!...

Lorenzo responds, ...'I didn't feel anything, it was only a light touching'...

Gull unable to finish the session due to damage.

No word on penalty points for either.

yeah that was funny what Jorge said. smart sarcasm and people didn't even noticed it(.'I didn't feel anything, it was only a light touching') LOL. even Mat Oxley didn't noticed it after slagging off non english reporters for didn't notice early comment from Jorge about the point system. And yeah ive told it Mat.O. to.
