I seem to remember Rossi was

I seem to remember Rossi was 51 points behind Hayden in 2006 with a few rounds to go and took massive chunks out of him in a few races (Pedrosa taking Hayden out at Estoril was a major help!). He went into the finale at Valencia 4 or 5 points ahead then crashed. The rest is history...

Good job Rossi

Right on cue. When Yamaha and Jorge needed him most, he finally stepped up to the plate. By beating Marquez, he prevented Marc from closing the gap to Jorge. Without that, it would be Jorge 127 - Marquez 118.

This must be a massive confidence boost for Rossi so now we can look forward to further wins from him, perhaps at Laguna Seca, Brno, Misano and Phillip Island.
