2014 Sachsenring MotoGP FP2 Result: Aleix Espargaro Holds Off Marquez And Lorenzo

Aleix Espargaro has once again topped the timesheets during the second session of free practice at the Sachsenring, the Forward Yamaha rider again putting a soft tire on to grab top spot. Espargaro had earlier experimented with both the Forward and the Yamaha chassis, before switching back to the Yamaha chassis to set the fastest time. The Forward chassis is said to be stronger in the slower corners, of which the Sachsenring has plenty.

Marc Marquez ended the session in 2nd, having much calmer session after his monster highside in the morning. The Repsol Honda man had treatment for his sore neck, and appeared to have suffered no ill effects. Jorge Lorenzo continues to be fast on the Yamaha, the factory man ending the session two tenths behind Marquez and a third of a second off the time of Espargaro.

Stefan Bradl rode to a strong 4th time on the LCR Honda, after slipping down the rankings through the session. Bradl ended the session ahead of Alvaro Bautista on the Gresini satellite Honda. Andrea Iannone was once again top Ducati, finishing ahead of Pol Espargaro on the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha and the factory Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso. Dani Pedrosa set the 9th fastest time after taking a fast tumble at the bottom of the hill, losing the front on the way into Turn 12, a place where a lot of riders have crashed. Pedrosa rolled a long way through the gravel, but came away unhurt. Valentino Rossi rounded out the top 10, the Movistar Yamaha rider the only man in the top 10 not to improve his time.

The session looked as if it might be halted by rain, several drops falling halfway through. Fortunately, the rain held off, and the riders only lost a couple of minutes of track time. The weather for Saturday looks set to be good, and the forecast for Sunday is also improving.

Fantastico.....

What a performance by laverty, except aleix 41 all open bikes (except ducati) were behind him. That's laudable and again time has proved no harm could ever occur to #93. Not for the time being, the question is how long more will lady luck favour him.

Guys its like he's touching a dog and it's turning into a goat...............last year jorge almost had a similar crash and re injured his collarbone but this boy, he's something different. And for Dani he has his best chance of a win here if he stops making silly crashes.
