Power Electronics, a Spanish manufacturer of electrical equipment based in Valencia, is to be the new sponsor of the Aspar team's MotoGP project, the team announced today. Below is the press release containing full details of the deal between the MotoGP team and Power Electronics:

POWER ELECTRONICS ASPAR TEAM

Today was the official announcement of the signing of an agreement between the multinational company Power Electronics and Jorge Martinez Aspar's team in an event that was attended by the company's president, Mr. Abelardo Salvo Babiloni and the vice-presidents Mr. Amadeo Salvo, Mr. Lalo Salvo and Mr. David Salvo, as well as Mr. Jorge Martínez Aspar, the general manager of the Aspar MotoGP team, and MotoGP pilot Aleix Espargaró.

In words of Mr. Amadeo Salvo, General Manager of Power Electronics, "it is an honor for us to sponsor and give our name to the Aspar Team in the MotoGP category. The negotiations went very well because at all times both sides were totally favorable to reach an agreement. The team and our company are on the same wavelength and the values for which we stand -technology, competitiveness, and globalization- are shared." "We realize the tremendous global impact of sponsoring the Aspar Team, now Power Electronics Aspar Team. We are convinced this alliance will dramatically enhance our global brand recognition. All we have to do now is work together, as we have always done, to continue our growth and expansion."

Jorge Martinez 'Aspar': "Today is a very important day for myself and the Aspar Team, because it has confirmed our new commitment to the future with a multinational company, which has long been at the forefront of technology. I am confident that, with the contribution of Power Electronics, we will put together a great season, and will reinforce our image internationally. If one of the best teams in the world, a reference in the World Championship, counts with the support of a multinational as Power Electronics, I think the success is guaranteed. I am delighted to be here today witnessing the union between Aspar Team and Power Electronics, and I want to thank all those whom made it possible. "

Aleix Espargaró: "We all know that Jorge Martinez 'Aspar' has made a titanic effort to ensure that all members of the Power Electronics Aspar Team embark on this all-new adventure. The category is new, so are the bikes, and it's a very inspiring project. Now with support given by Power Electronics it's going to be even more so. We are proud to compete under the name of two such powerful Valencian companies that have grown to be what they are now from a working philosophy. I am convinced that the blue color will bring us luck, and I am sure the connection between Power Electronics and Aspar Team will be synonymous of success. "

Power Electronics, leading manufacturer and distributor in the world of drives, softstarters and solar inverters, has 25 years of experience and has proven to be at the forefront of technological development. Thanks to its strong commitment to R&D it is now one of the leaders in its sector. This strategic alliance represents a strengthening of its commitment to sports and innovation, and will only reinforce Power Electronics' position on the global playingofield. The multinational Power Electronics is expanding worldwide and has subsidiaries in over 40 countries. It has chosen motorcycling as a "vehicle" for its global marketing strategy because it considers this sport is currently at its best and because the MotoGP class is broadcast worldwide by dozens of television channels to over 300 million homes.

If I was buying a second hand

If I was buying a second hand bike in Spain and found myself doing a deal with Jorge Martinez I'd turn around and walkout quick smart least he whisper in my ear and sell me a bike for double it's original worth.

Jorge Super Salesman?

Is this comment a tribute to Jorge's salesmanship, is is meant to be derisory? Give the man his due - he's the only one with teams in all three GP classes, isn't he?

Marketing 101

After reading their press release I wondered, gee, who is Power Electronics? I did an internet search, no luck there in several pages of results except for a magazine of the same name. I went to Aspar's website, no sponsoring company URL there either. Nothing on MotoGP.com either. If the reason for sponsorship is for advertising then this is not starting out on the right foot.

I was able to find them doing a search for 'Power Electronics' and 'Valencia' to get their home page (powerelectronics.es) which had a nice display on their home page about the Aspar sponsorship. If this is the best coordination that the biggest team in GPs can do, it is no wonder why big multinationals have no interest in spending money in MotoGP.

maybe, but

Most press releases I read have the company URL at the bottom so that interested people can find more information. Or a link on their site. The PE logo on the Aspar site redirects you back to the Aspar site.

Global is the key word here.
