MV Agusta Returns To Racing: ParkinGO To Race 675 F3 In World Supersport

MV Agusta will be making a return to world championship racing. Today, the iconic Italian brand they will be teaming up with the ParkinGO squad led by Giuliano Rovelli to race the company's new three-cylinder F3 675 machine in World Supersport for the 2013 season.

The choice of ParkinGO to run the MV Agusta WSS effort is a logical move. ParkinGO has experience of developing different machinery, having raced Triumph's 675 Daytona in the World Supersport class between 2008 and 2010. The team then lifted the World Supersport title in 2011 with Chaz Davies, after switching to Yamaha's YZF R6, a bike which had not been raced the previous year. The team then moved up World Superbike with Davies, racing an Aprilia RSV4, on which the Welshman scored a win and three podiums.

Though no rider has yet been named, GPOne.com is reporting that Luca Scassa will be signed up to race the F3. Scassa knows the team, having partnered Davies for the team in 2011, and knows MV Agusta, having raced with the marque in Superstock 1000 in 2006 and 2007.

Below is the official press release from ParkinGO announcing the collaboration with MV Agusta:

MV Agusta and ParkinGO together for the come back to the racing world

The Italian company leader on the 600 market has decided to come back to the racing world finding ParkinGO Team the best partner for it. Both companies have signed a three years contract. The program has as first step, the debut of the MV Agusta F3 675 on the Supersport World Championship 2013 and the development of the MV Agusta sport activity.

The project will see the three cylinder of Schiranna, ready and developed by the technicians, already crowned in 2011 World Supersport Champion and protagonist on the World Superbike Championship last season. ParkinGO Team reaches its dream of a long project with an Italian company that can claim a unique palmares on the racing world with 37 world titles already won with the great Giacomo Agostini.

The contract with MV Agusta arrives on the same day of Claudio Castiglioni’s birthday that today would have been 65 years old. Not a simple coincidence, continuing the sport passion that had always been an important part of his life.

Giovanni Castiglioni
President MV Agusta

“Is a great satisfaction to announce this agreement with the Team ParkinGO. Personally speaking, for me is a big and exciting challenge as I have got from my father the passion for the racing world. I am convinced that with the experience of Massimo Bordi, engineer, involved in this project as well, we have all the components needed to get important results.”

Giuliano Rovelli
President ParkinGO

“This morning my brother Paolo and myself, were talking about the big responsibility and at the same time the great satisfaction we feel signing such an important agreement. Already from the first meetings has been a good understanding with the management of the company. Both of our foresights in the project, are an important component to get the best out of this partnership.”

Very Happy

Very happy to see more brands coming (back) into the world of racing and getting their feet wet in WSS before stepping up with the F4 into WSBK. I remember there was a year that everybody and their mother was going to compete in WBK, Honda, Yamaha, Kawi, Suzuki, Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, MV, BMW. Just anyone who built a Superbike was going to come play. Unfortunately the economic crisis hit and it didnt happen, but man I was looking forward to that.

Im a HUGE fan of middle weights for street riding because of how far they have come in development and the fact you can wring them out more than a 1 liter and not being moving Mach 7.

Ive wanted an MVF3 since it was a rumor, then when it was a drawing, then a rendering, then a prototype and I still want one now that its been built.

As sad as it is to say, I dont really watch Supersport all that much unless i read about something extraordinary happening, but I will be watching a bit more now to see how MV fairs.
