2011 MotoMatters Calendar Requests - What Do You Want?

Postby Kropotkin on Mon Sep 13, 2010 10:56 pm

Scott and I are working on the 2011 MotoMatters Motorcycle Racing Calendar, and are kicking around a few ideas. We'd like to get some input from you, if we could.

First of all, in previous years we have only featured track photos of the riders, but we are going to mix it up a little bit more now. So, my question to you is what kind of photos do you want to see? All action shots? Rider portraits? Technical stuff from pit lane? Scenery pictures? At least half the shots will be on-track action, but we are open to suggestions for others. You can find a selection of the photos from the site here: http://motomatters.com/photos/

Any other suggestions you have (with the exception of putting Sunday at the start of the week, this can't be done for practical reasons)? How do you like seeing the rider birthdays on the calendar? Would you like to see AMA or BSB dates? Dates for the Spanish championship? Is there any information you are missing, and that we can include without using too much space? Any comments on legibility, etc etc etc?

All your input would be more than welcome. Of course, that doesn't mean that we'll implement it all, but it will be taken very seriously indeed.

For the poll, here are examples of what we mean by the different photo types:

I would like 24 or 36 months in a year, so there can be more photos! :ugeek:
By "scenery" I was hoping you mean grid walk shots... ;)

I think having series that aren't international would be too much data to fit on this calendar, and makes the risk of shifting information too high.

Just a thought!
How would it looked like if there was a photo in the background of the dates (number field). Maybe lither colours! Would that ruin visibility of dates? :|

I like the idea of mixed photos but I'm not to fond of face only photos as "rider portraits 1" but I like the "rider portraits 1" look!

Me too! Maybe in the future. Or maybe I can persuade Scott to publish a photo book.

Good point. Noted.

I like the idea, but I think it would make the calendar much harder to read. It would also detract from the main photo, I think. Good idea, though.

You mean, you like the colors, but you don't like the face only shot?

He might mean - and now that I think about it, if I said it, I would mean - that a portrait is not as compelling for a full month of viewing. However, if there was an open corner of the calendar/date page that had a rider portrait (especially if it was that rider's birth month), that would be cool.

To put it simply ... just one big face in the whole page is not that interesting but I like if there are few people in the pic like in discussion or in movement!
